Hello, my name is Karen Smilley and it is my great joy to pastor SBC and serve the local community. I studied at Spurgeon's College in London, was ordained at Burnham on Crouch Baptist Church on 11th June 2022 and inducted here on Sunday 18th September 2022.  

My husband Scott and I have two grown up children who both live further south and we have two little dogs.  We are avid Formula 1 fans and enjoy watching football.  Both Scott and I grew up in East London, yet we find that Spalding feels like home. 

I have a huge heart for community and justice.  I am drawn to local issue's and seeking to find solutions which enable and equip people to live in freedom.  The foundation of the ministry I am called to and the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit in me is a response to Scripture; Matthew 22: 37-40

‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’

My understanding of God is that He is love, and my response is to love Him with every aspect of my being.  Also, to love my neighbour without judgement, condemnation, or expectation. This response requires a desire to be transparent and accountable, vulnerable, and honest. I trust that this will encourage others to be motivated and feel secure to do likewise.

This is how I understand my calling to live in and with the Spalding community.  To champion and advocate for you. To love those who follow Christ and those who have yet to know Him.
